Poll: 52 Percent of Israelis Believe Netanyahu Should Resign Over Indictments

Fifty-two percent of Israelis believe Benjamin Netanyahu should no longer act as prime minister following his indictment in three corruption cases, a new poll by Channel 12 News published on Friday shows.

Another 38 percent said Netanyahu could retain his position despite being charged, and an additional ten percent remained undecided on the issue.

However, when the question was posed to those who consider themselves right-wing voters, 57 percent responded that Netanyahu should continue on as premier, his indictments notwithstanding. Thirty-four percent of right-wingers who participated in the survey said he should resign, while nine percent said they don't know whether Netanyahu is fit to remain prime minister.

When asked who they would vote for if another election was held immediately, Benny Gantz's Kahol Lavan edged over Netanyahu's Likud party with one Knesset seat, earning 34 to the latter's 33. The Arab-majority Joint List came in as the third strongest party with 13 seats, followed by Avigdor Lieberman's Yisrael Beiteinu and the two ultra-Orthodox parties, Shas and United Torah Judaism, with eight seats.

Left-wing alliances Labor-Gesher and the Democratic Union each passed the electoral threshold with five seats, and were surpassed by one seat by interim Defense Minister Naftali Bennett's Hayamin Hehadash.

The religious-Zionist Habayit Hayehudi and the far-right, Kahanist Otzma Yehudit failed to surmount the electoral threshold.
