Baha Abu al-Ata was killed in a joint operation carried out by the Israel Defense Forces and the Shin Bet security service, during which the commander in charge of the most recent slew of rocket attacks against Israel and his wife were killed in their home.
Shortly after Islamic Jihad and Hamas vowed to retaliate, a barrage of rockets was launched at southern and central Israel, activating sirens across half the country. The Israeli military said that 50 rockets have been launched at Israel since Tuesday morning, 20 of which were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system.
