Hamas Engineer’s Assassins Used Fake Serbia, Montenegro Passports, Malaysia Police Say

Police in Malaysia on Saturday said they had found the car and gun used in the assassination of Fadi al-Batsh, a Palestinian engineer, last month in Kuala Lumpur. Foreign media reported that Batsh was likely killed by Mossad agents.

Revealing new details about the assassination on Saturday, Malaysia’s National police chief Mohamad Fuzi Harun said Batsh’s assassins used fake Serbia and Montenegro passports to enter Malaysia and were in possession of other passports as well.

According to the police, the gun used by the assassins was found and sent to the forensic lab for further analysis.

Two men on a high-powered motorcycle fired at least 14 shots at Batsh, an engineering lecturer, outside his apartment building on April 21, killing him on the spot.

Police said Saturday that they had located the killers’ getaway vehicle, while the owners of the vehicle were also said to have been found.

Batsh was involved in talks with North Korea on arms intended for Gaza, The New York Times reported last month. According to the report, Batsh was killed as part of an alleged operation by the Mossad to take out Hamas scientists and engineers training abroad to gather "know-how and weaponry to fight Israel."

Hamas has confirmed Batsh was a member of the Islamic movement.

Batsh was buried last week in the Gaza Strip despite Israel’s efforts to prevent the transfer of his body into the enclave. His body was brought to Gaza via Egypt. His family and delegates from all the Palestinian factions came to the Rafah crossing to take part in the funeral procession.

Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh attended Batsh’s funeral. "The blood of the fallen is the fuel on the path to the victory of the Palestinian people," he said, vowing to "cut off the filthy hands that assassinated Batsh."
